Neighborhood Clean-up Survey

Clean streets help make our neighborhoods healthier and more livable. Clean streets also make our business corridors more attractive and improve economic activity.

For the second straight year, funding I’m allocating through the NYC Cleanup Initiative will address some of the streets in District 7 that are in most need of better maintenance. To determine how best to deploy resources for this effort, I’m asking local residents to tell me where street clean-up is most needed.

Where do you want additional street cleaning and sweeping?

EXAMPLE: Amsterdam Avenue between 155 Street and 156 Street

Q: Where do you want additional snow removal?
A: On the Riverside Viaduct from 135-125st. This vital park-to-park link is impossible to cross after a snowfall, forcing pedestrians, joggers, dog walkers into the roadway where cars notoriously speed.

Q: Where do you want additional street cleaning and sweeping?
A: 1) Riverside Viaduct from 135-125st. (This is no man’s land and never gets snow shoveled! Since there are no buildings, there are no Supers. Not Parks property nor wide enough for their plows. Sidewalk snow plowing is not DOT either. As a result viral park-to-park link is treacherous and impossible to cross after a snowfall and one must walk on the road where cars speed.)
    2) Broadway from 135-145
    3) Hamilton Place from 136st to 138 st by the stone wall.

Q: Where do you want additional street cleaning and sweeping?
A: 111th btwn A and B is a strip of land mine holes and patches. A yr or so ago, almost all the streets around it were repaved, but not 111th. Please convince the city to do it NOW.

Q: Where do you want additional snow removal?
A: I want the shop owners to make sure they remove the snow and ice in front of their storefronts – some do and some don’t.

Q: Where do you want additional snow removal?
A: See first answer – 116th street and Claremont (between Broadway and Riverside, on the north side of the street) – tiny triangle park, where the side that runs along 116th is never adequately salted or shoveled. It’s a death trap.

Q: Where do you want additional street cleaning and sweeping?
A: 116th street and Claremont, right where that little park is — this is a spot that somehow technically belongs to Riverside Park, and is INCREDIBLY icy and treacherous during the winter. Columbia doesn’t salt or shovel because it’s not in front of their buildings, and the parks department never comes up the street. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen there, and there are lots of old people on my block. Thanks for asking!
