NEW YORK -- City Council Member Mark Levine announced that he will hold the first ever participatory budget vote for District 7 residents who are 14 and older from April 11 to April 19. Participatory Budgeting empowers local residents to vote for project proposals developed by community stakeholders that they would like to see funded. Voters will be able to choose their top five selections out of 16 project proposals to decide how to spend $1 million of public money.

“Participatory budgeting engages regular people in the governing process and gives them the tools to decide what improvements they’d like to see in their neighborhood. Many of the creative project proposals on the ballot would not have come to light without input from the community. I’m proud to offer District 7 residents the opportunity to directly decide what they’d like to see funded by their own tax dollars,” said Council Member Mark Levine.

Eligible voters only need to be 14 years old with some form of documentation stating their address, be it a cable bill or an ID, to take part in participatory budgeting. Residents do not have to be registered to vote.

The project proposals on the ballot were developed by volunteer “Budget Delegates” and members of the community. You can see a full list of proposals on the ballot along with voting locations below:
