City Councilmembers Mark Levine and Eric Ulrich have announced legislation that would provide military veterans and people with disabilities a discount of up to 80 percent on memberships at Parks Department recreation centers.
While many NYC Parks programs are available at little or no cost, an adult membership at a Parks Department recreation center requires an annual fee of $100 or $150.
“These groups — veterans and people with disabilities — we want them out of their homes, we want them to take care of their bodies and socialize with other New Yorkers,” explained Levine. “If we can lower the barrier a little bit, by discounting the fees, then we are all for it,” he added.
